08. Full Day Private Lisbon and Sintra Jewish Tour

Historical researches indicate that the Jewish presence in Portugal remounts before the formation of the kingdom of Portugal.

In the 12th century, Portugal becomes a nation and the first Jewish communities appear in Lisbon.D.Manuel I (15th century) with fear of the financial exit capital of the country, published a law, that unauthorized the Jewish departure of Portugal and he force them to convert. It is these descendants of those generations that today begin to assume their Jewish inheritance.

You will begin your visit at the place where the Saint Catholic Inquisition burned thousands and thousands of Jews that refused to accept the Christian faith in the bonfires of the Square of Rossio in Lisbon.

Visit the Synagogue Shaare Tikva, as well as the cemetery which was built when the Jewish settled into Lisbon. The first to be buried in this cemetery was Jose Amzalaga, who died on February 26, 1804.
