Mexico, the cradle of ancient civilizations, is a beautiful and diverse country with much to offer to its visitors, whether they go and visit the local beaches, world famous for their hospitality and beauty or historical cities of pre-spanish colonization. You will find here many archaeological sites inherited from the cultural traditions of the civilizations like Maya, Olmeca, Tarascan and Aztec. National Parks are found all over Mexico and strech from the desert to the mountain forests. Even if you only visit one of modern cities, you can be sure that you will feel better. Among the most important places in Mexico include the capital Mexico City and Monterrey, with its beautiful colonial buildings and Guadalajara. Colonial cities are Oaxaca, Morelia,
San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Zacatecas and Merida in the Yucatan peninsula,
among others. In the place where the Caribbean Sea meets the Yucatan Peninsula,
coral reefs come to life due to sea creatures. Pacific's Coast attracts spectacular
gray seals and whales, which choose Mexico to mate and give birth year after
year. Even in the desert there is life - here grows agave, the mother of tequila.
Blue agave plant is much used in Acapulco and Cancun, where after a day of surfing
people come to flirt in bars and nightclubs. Attractions and
places to visit in Mexico includ:
- Once you land at Cancun airport you have access to numerous
brochures, free travel magazines and vouchers regarding every activity from Cancun to
Tulum. If you are arriving in Merida it is likewise with activities located
in and around Merida to Campeche. Your resort or hotel will also have brochures
and usually a good directory in the room. Current prices are listed in all
hotel lobbies for tours. You have time to walk around and visit off site
tour agencies and car rental agencies if you have not already booked your
car. For cheap
resorts in Cancun or hotels
in Cabo San Lucas we have exclusive deals on hotel rooms!
- Located deep in the Yucatan jungle,193km west of Cancun, Chichen Itza is
one of the most impressive place of the mysterious Maya civilization. There
have been many human sacrifices until 1200, when the site was suddenly abandoned.
Today, the old road between Cancun and Merida crosses through Chichen Itza,
creating two separate sites Chichen Viejo and Chichen Nuevo, the most intact
ruins from mayan period.
- Located in the Palenque National Park, Palenque is one of the greatest
classic Maya ruin sites. Located on a prominent place in the green mountains,
overlooking the swampy plains in the north, the golden age of Palenque was
between 500 and 700. The most remarkable structures are the Palace and the
crypt inside the pyramid of The Temple of the Inscriptions.
- San Miguel de Allende Parish Church is a gothic pink church and a nice
example of colonial architecture. The church is located in central square
of San Miguel de Allende and was built in 1683 and renovated in 1880. The
crypt under the main altar contains the remains of Felipe González
and General Anastasio Bustamante, heroes of the Mexican War of Independence
(1810-1821) against Spain.
- Copper Canyon (Barrancas del Cobre) is a land of waterfalls, mountains,
rivers, desert and forest. Four of these canyons are deeper than the Grand
American Canyon. The most famous attraction is the Chihuahua al Pacifico
Railway, a route over 36 large bridges and 87 tunnels with a height of 2.438m.
- Acapulco, is a tropical paradise, with mountains and rich vegetation, fine
beaches and an exquisite golf. Acapulco, is one of the most popular destinations
in Mexico. The city is divided into three areas: Playa Revolcadero, with
the largest stretch of water and a tropical lagoon, Puerto Marguis, where
recently opened many luxury resorts and the Acapulco Bay most famous thanks
to its natural harbor, luxury hotels, crowded nightlife places, shopping
areas, restaurants and cafes. Search all the best hotel reservations sites
at once and find the cheapest
hotels in Acapulco!
- Located at 50 km northeast of Mexico City, Teotihuacan became the largest
pre-Hispanic city in the sixth century. The largest building is the Pyramid
of the Sun, with a height of 63m. On the Death Alley, the main street of
Teotihuacan, lies Pyramid of the Moon, another giant construction.
- White Mountain (Monte Alban) sheltered at one time 50,000 Zapotec people.
Those who built Monte Alban leveled the top of the mountain which shadowed
the three surrounding valleys of Oxaca. Monte Alban was a political center
around 400 BC and has developed as an important cultural center, between
500 BC and 700 AC. The center was abandoned when the Zapotecs begin to lose
their political power.
